Polythene Collection
Our campaign is focused on addressing the issue of polythene and plastic waste pollution in Nepal. In collaboration with SEEM Nepal and other organizations, we actively organize cleaning programs and engage volunteers in the collection of polythene and plastic waste from various lands. Through our efforts, we have been able to involve more than 400 communities, clubs, and organizations across Nepal, creating a mass movement and encouraging widespread participation.
One notable achievement took place in Tilottama Municipality in Nepal, where we conducted the Zero Polythene campaign on 6th January 2020. To encourage community involvement, we organized a cultural and musical program, inviting all residents of Tilottama Municipality to attend. Instead of purchasing a ticket with cash, individuals were requested to bring a sack of collected polythene bags (approximately 4-6 kg) as a gate pass to enter the program. This initiative received overwhelming support, with more than 6,000 people participating and contributing 5,400 polythene sacks. The event garnered positive reviews from local and national media and television outlets for its impressive impact.
Our efforts in polythene collection programs have extended beyond Tilottama Municipality. We have been actively involved in Dharan Sub-metropolitan city of Sunsari, Bandganga Municipality of Kapilvastu, Hill Park of Butwal in Rupandehi, Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur area, and various other municipalities throughout Nepal. Notably, we achieved significant success in Tilottama Municipality, collecting 86,000 sacks of polythene waste, and in Vyas Municipality, where we collected 42,000 sacks during the Zero Polythene Campaign organized by SEEM Nepal.
Through these collective efforts, we aim to address the growing problem of polythene and plastic waste pollution in Nepal. By involving communities, raising awareness, and promoting active participation, we strive to make a significant impact in reducing the environmental impact of these materials. Our campaign has garnered widespread support and recognition, driving positive change and encouraging responsible waste management practices across the country.
